Curious minds want to know. Many of our volunteers have been asked that question numerous times from bystanders, teachers, administrators, security guards, policemen, parents, and students. They are looking for that one word answer to either confirm or discredit our ability to pray with others.
When a person desires to join Operation P.R.A.Y. (Prayer Reaching All Youth), we direct them to read our Statement of Faith, our Basic Training pages, pray, and confirm God is calling them into this ministry.
Our volunteers range from various age groups. Some are students, employed, unemployed, married, single, parents, and grandparents. Some with dogs; some with cats. (Smile) The common thread is: they are children of God with hearts like Jesus filled with the Holy Spirit with a testimony of transformation.
They have a strong desire to love the lost, encourage the saved, uplift the searchers, and stand in front of a high school building to pray one hour a week. It is the highlight of their week. It is an addiction they can't get enough of!
In the 2022-23 school year, our five volunteers prayed weekly at five high schools. By the 2023-24 school year, we had over 45 active weekly volunteers at 19 high schools, marking a 300% increase! Our volunteers prayed with over 3,000 students, with over 200 decisions to follow Jesus. Operation P.R.A.Y. was hosted at five campus Christian clubs, teaching and sharing the power of prayer to over 430 students.
We now have a dedicated website to assist others in starting prayer teams at local high schools, accepting donations, sharing blog posts, offering products, and linking to our social media. Need Prayer Inc., the legal name for Operation P.R.A.Y. is now a 501c non-profit company.
Our first year-end fundraising campaign, Save A Teenager, raised $1,525 and combined with total donations exceeding over $4,700, enabled us to provide volunteers with shirts, signs, prayer journals, and Christian club info cards at no cost!
Certainly, the 2023-24 year surpassed our expectations, as God miraculously connected us to advance His Kingdom here on earth. So, when asked what church are you from, we are the church that Jesus envisioned.
